Catch up by the Coffee Machine: Harry Yates

Harry Yates has been with Avamore for over three years, initially joining the company as a Credit Analyst in 2019. He has been one of the company’s longest standing employees, and is the true personification of ‘hard work pays off’ as in during his time here he has managed to work his way up to Head of Credit Analysis. We caught up with him about his time with Avamore and what’s next…

Why did you join Avamore? What were your initial thoughts of the company?

I studied Investment and Finance in Property at the University of Reading as it’s an area that I’ve always had a keen interest in. Between my second and third year at university I completed a stint of work experience at Avamore. I absolutely loved my time here in that period and so joining after I finished my degree seemed like no-brainer.

How has your career progressed while you’ve been here?

I started out as a Credit Analyst in 2019 and worked my way through Senior Credit Analyst and Credit Analysis Associate to my most recent promotion to Head of Credit Analysis just a few months ago.

What do you enjoy most about Avamore?

It’s got a fantastic culture and is really fast paced. It’s quite a young company with a flat structure that gives you the complete freedom to be autonomous in your work. That being said, there’s still a great team work ethic with everyone here.

If you could learn one skill, what would it be and why?

In an ideal world, I would learn how to play golf. I’d like to be able to play with friends and also get stuck into a number of golfing events in our industry.

If you could choose another career what would it be and why?

I’d be a racing driver as have been an F1 fanatic all my life!

What advice would you give someone looking to join Avamore?

Don’t be afraid to get stuck in and get to know everyone at the company. It’s a relatively small firm with crossover between all departments so it’s important to build a rapport with colleagues and understand the process from start to finish.

How would you define success?

Achieving the goals that you set for yourself.

What is your greatest professional highlight?

Becoming Head of Credit Analysis would naturally be the highlight but the day I got my Avamore gilet was one to remember – not and easy thing to accomplish and have barely taken it off since!

Describe yourself in 3 words

Adaptable, optimistic and ambitious.
