Catch Up by the Coffee Machine – Dyan Letts

Dyan Letts is the latest addition to the Avamore Capital Underwriting Team and has been working alongside Amit Majithia and Philip Gould for the past three weeks.

Roshini, from the Avamore Marketing team, conducted this Catch Up by the Coffee Machine feature with Dyan Letts to know more about her time at Avamore so far. They covered her move into a new working environment and, gained a more in-depth insight into life as an Underwriter at Avamore.

  1. What were your first impressions of Avamore?

D: My first impression of Avamore was that everyone is very enthusiastic about what they do. It is nice to see such dedication in so many different fields. In a small team, that’s a really important quality!

  1. What processes are different from your previous position?

D: There are a lot of things that are different – previously, I had control over all stages of a deal whereas now I have additional help from a Credit Analysis team. It’s going to take some time to get used to but it’s definitely better in the long run in terms of executing a higher volume of deals.

  1. How would you describe Avamore in three words?

D: The three words I would use are:

Competitive: The company provides rates that are in-line with challenger banks which is a huge positive particularly in today’s market.

Innovative: Avamore is always open to new ideas, for example, they were reactive to the needs of developers in the uncertainty of today’s market. This resulted in the creation of the Finish & Exit product.

Value: They value all contributions and enquiries; all enquiries are discussed in depth before they are taken forward or closed.

  1. Given the chance, which department would you like to work in within the company and why?

D: That’s an interesting question but honestly, I would stay in the Underwriting team – it’s what I’m passionate about and I have years of experience in the job.

  1. What is it that you’d like to achieve by the end of the year?

D: Despite starting later in the year, my goal – spanning my time at Avamore – is to close as many deals as possible.

  1. How are you adapting to the office environment at Avamore?

D: I have been adapting well. Everyone is friendly and approachable which makes it easy to adjust to a new setting.

  1. What does a typical day look like and what are you currently working on?

D: Every day has been different for me so far. I’ve just been trying to find my way around in terms of how processes work internally. I’ve been joining meetings which I typically wouldn’t need to attend in order to understand how people think. Right now, I am working on 4 deals that are all in different stages of completion.

  1. What do you find most challenging about underwriting?

D: Each deal we receive is different and each comes with its own challenges, nevertheless, it is always rewarding once a deal completes!

  1. How would you describe your job to someone who doesn’t know anything about the property industry?

D: In simpler terms, I deal with the legal side of property development.

  1. What do you like most about your new job and why?

D: Where do I start? There is a collection of things, the most important thing is that I am constantly busy – my hours fly by as I am engrossed in the tasks that I am doing. Another big thing that I like about being at Avamore is that they are constantly open to new ideas. From discussing how procedures are handled to suggesting a new branding technique, there is always someone to listen and develop on an idea.

From this Catch Up by the Coffee Machine with Dyan Letts, it is clear that she is thriving at Avamore. We look forward to seeing the full scope of what she has to offer in the months to come!
