Chris Treadwell first joined the Avamore team in 2018 as a Transaction and Underwriting Associate. After gaining a deep understanding of the credit analysis side of the business, Chris moved on to be the first Relationship Manager and now also works alongside Andreas Yianni to build Avamore’s market presence.
In this edition of Catch Up by the Coffee Machine with Chris Treadwell, he reflects on his time at Avamore so far, providing a deeper insight into who he is and what life as a Relationship Manager at Avamore is like.
What do you like most about your job?
C: What I like most about my job is that I get to build relationships with a large number of people. Everyday involves engaging with a new broker or developer.
What inspires you?
C: This might seem like a conventional answer but what inspires me the most is other people’s success stories; in particular, individuals who build businesses from nothing. Ray Dalio, for example, started investing his money when he was 12 years old and is now a billionaire investor – that to me is incredible.
Describe your job in 3 words and explain why you chose these words?
C: I would describe my job using the following words:
Fast-paced: Things move quickly after initial enquiries.
Spontaneous: There is no monotony in my job, I do not have a strict routine, all my days are structured differently.
Communication: My job is heavily reliant on communicating with others. I need to be clear and concise at all times so that I can relay Avamore’s products with ease.
How do you define success in the property finance industry?
C: I equate success in the property industry to having a good reputation. If you provide a high-quality service, people talk about your work and you formulate a good reputation. If people speak highly of your work to others, you are more likely to generate business and ultimately become successful.
What do you do outside of the office?
C: I like exercising, so a lot of my free time consists of some sort of physical activity. I also love skiing but, of course, this isn’t as regular as my sessions in the gym.
What would be your ideal birthday present?
C: I am not a very materialistic person so my ideal birthday present would be an experience. The opportunity to spend a year with a business mogul such as Richard Branson would be fantastic! It would be a great learning curve. Alternatively, a trip away with my daughter is always brilliant!
What is something you’ve learnt in the past month and what has this taught you?
C: Something I have learnt in the past month is the importance of persistence and staying focused. I am all for personal development and if you stay focused to one thing, and overcome the obstacles, you are more likely to master it.
What has been your favourite scheme to work on?
C: My favourite scheme has been our Finish & Exit in North London. This is because it was one that I saw heavily involved in; excluding the Underwriting process, I was able to oversee the deal from initial enquiry to completion.
What is your favourite thing about the office environment at Avamore?
C: Avamore has a flat structure so quick decisions are made.
What do you find most challenging about your role and why?
C: The thing I find most challenging about my job is that, naturally, I want to generate as much business as I can; however, this is not always possible. In an ideal world, we would complete on every deal sent into us, but not all deals fit into the Avamore criteria.
